Alabama Power and Social Media
"We are where you are."
Today's technology empowers people in ways they never had before, with the ability to connect, share and inspire from anywhere. As more of our customers come to rely on social networks, we are doing our part by joining their conversations.
Here's a brief rundown of where you can find us online, and what to expect:
Twitter is a real-time stream of short updates, which run the gamut from the profane to the profound. Users send Tweets, or messages of up to 140 characters, to those who choose to follow. Tweets often include links to other websites, pictures or videos.
If you choose to follow @AlabamaPower on Twitter, you'll get a light stream of news and information including energy-efficiency tips, outage updates and occasional news releases.
We also listen to customers who mention us on Twitter, but not around the clock. The best way to reach Customer Service remains 800-245-2244. To report an outage or hazardous condition, call 800-888-2726.
We also tweet from @RenewOurRivers, discussing the cleanup efforts and other topics of interest to our partners on the lakes; and celebrate the great things happening in our communities through @Power_of_Good.
Sporting more than 850 million users worldwide, Facebook is becoming the online hub for most Internet users. If you choose to "Like" the Alabama Power page on Facebook, your stream will include energy efficiency advice, fun facts about the company and occasional news. We'll also answer questions, but not all questions are suitable for a public forum.
We also have pages for our Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO). With 10 chapters across the state, APSO is an outlet for our employees to volunteer for various community improvement projects. Find the chapter nearest you to see what your friends and neighbors are doing in your community.
Our YouTube Channel will host our video communications. The clips will include explanations of outages, tips to save energy at your home, our commercials and other features
News and Notes (AlabamaPowerNews.com)
The News and Notes page will include updates that are too big for a Tweet, but not as formal as our news releases. Much of the content is designed with reporters and editors in mind, but we're just as happy to share this information with customers. There is a link that allows you to subscribe to instant email alerts when the site is updated.
RenewOurRivers.com
Our first company blog, the Renew Our Rivers site is devoted to our litter cleanup efforts. We post the schedule for cleanups, announce results and include resources and advice for people who want to conduct their own cleanups.
Send us pictures or video from your Renew Our Rivers cleanup to get a Renew Our Rivers hat.
PowerOfGood.com
The Power of Good is our way of celebrating the people and the moments that make our communities a great place to live. Every day, there are unsung heroes making a quiet but profound impact on the lives of others. If you find yourself needing inspiration (or know of someone we ought to feature), then the Power of Good is a great place to start and to share.
Rules of the Road
We welcome your feedback and participation, but reserve the right to delete messages that are hurtful, harmful or off-topic. Please remember Customer Service will not always be available to instantly respond online. Our Call Center remains the fastest way to get assistance.
