Environmental Action at Alabama Power

Join us in learning how you can help make tomorrow better for us and better for our planet...

Renew Our Rivers
Our water is cleaner thanks to the Renew the Coosa river cleanup program. The award-winning program began in May 2000, after employees from Alabama Power's Plant Gadsden became concerned about litter on the banks of the Coosa River. Now expanded to include many other lake cleanups, Renew Our Rivers is the largest organized river-system cleanup in the Southeast and one of the largest in the nation.

Wild Power
Property owners with transmission lines crossing their land are eligible to receive funds for brush removal and plantings that promote, attract, shelter and feed wildlife in the rights-of-way.

Grassroots Support
Help us support environmental groups throughout the state, including Keep Alabama Beautiful , the Alabama Wildlife Federation, and LEGACY - Partners for Environmental Education.

Renewable Energy Rate
Learn about Alabama Power's new Renewable Energy Rate and how you can participate.

Share a Ride
Alabama Power's award-winning Nozoner program encourages employees to carpool, telecommute and work flexible hours on high ozone days. Ask your employer about similar opportunities at your workplace.

Nature's Treatment
Wetlands can provide an environmentally friendly wastewater treatment option. Alabama Power is testing a three-acre, man-made wetlands area at Plant Gorgas to manage water run-off.
