With more than 2,600 vehicles in our fleet, we're always looking for ways to operate more efficiently, reduce emissions and save on fuel costs.
Biofuels
For more than a decade, we have been using soy-based B20 biodiesel fuel in some of our fleet vehicles, and we continue to expand the number of sites where B20 is available for refueling. Biofuels produce fewer harmful emissions than conventional petroleum fuels.
Hybrid Trucks
Hybrid vehicles can provide a fuel savings of 30 to 50 percent over conventional vehicles. Hybrids also produce fewer emissions and run quieter than conventional vehicles. We continue to add more hybrid vehicles to our fleet, as well as researching a variety of electric transportation and advanced battery vehicles. Idle Reduction
An idling engine can use up to a gallon of fuel per hour. We're working aggressively to reduce idling across our fleet, which saves fuel, cuts costs and reduces emissions.
NoZoner and CommuteSmart
By reducing the number of vehicles on the road, we can help improve air quality. Our NoZoner program encourages and assists employees to reduce driving, especially during the hot summer months when auto emissions can contribute to ground-level ozone. We also partner with CommuteSmart of Alabama, through which employees can participate in carpooling and vanpooling. The company also supports efforts to improve mass transit and expand facilities for walking and bicycling. Learn more about CommuteSmart.
