MIGs
Our May 24, 2007 Informational Meeting for the Martin Project Relicensing was very well attended and we appreciate the feedback we received from those of you who were able to participate. As indicated in the meeting, we have compiled all the concerns, questions, and data requests received thus far and categorized them by "issue area." Each of these five (5) issue areas have been assigned to a working group which we’ve termed "Martin Issue Group" or "MIG". From there, we prepared “MIG Sheets” for each resource area to include an issue statement, existing information, current studies/info gathering and potential future studies. The MIG sheets for each resource category are listed below.
MIG 1 – Fish and Wildlife
MIG 2 – Water Quality and Quantity
MIG 3 – Project Operations
MIG 4 – Shoreline Management
MIG 5 – Recreation
MIG 6 – Cultural Resources
These MIG sheets are important documents because we need to focus our efforts on moving from defining project related issues to making a determination that we have enough existing information to address the issue, or that we will need to supplement existing information with a particular study. This is the first step in working toward those study plans.
We will be distributing draft study plans in September in preparation for subsequent stakeholder meetings in mid October (exact dates and details will be forthcoming). The October meetings will take place over a two day period and will involve separate meetings for each of the MIGs. We ask that you look over the attached MIG sheets and start thinking about which group(s) you would like to actively participate in. Also keep in mind that all meeting notes will be posted on the Martin Relicensing website, so you can stay informed of the MIG activities without attending all the meetings.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me at Jim Crew or 205-257-4265. We look forward to your continued participation in the Martin relicensing effort.
