Renew Our Rivers

Through the Renew Our Rivers campaign, we partner with individuals and organizations across our state in a volunteer program that removes trash from rivers and other waterways. Since the program’s inception in 2000, about 75,000 volunteers have collected over 14 million pounds of trash and debris.

Power of Flight Campaign - Community Projects and Programs - Alabama Power Company

Power of Flight

Through Power of Flight, a partnership with Southern Company and its operating companies, nonprofits and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, we work to restore populations and endangered or threatened birds through habitat restoration and environmental education. Since 2003, more than 30 projects impacting our state’s bird populations have received funding as part of the program.

Longleaf Stewardship Fund - Community Projects and Programs - Alabama Power Company

Longleaf Stewardship Fund

Through Longleaf Stewardship Fund, a partnership with Southern Company and its operating companies and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, we work to restore our state’s longleaf pine ecosystem. Since 2004, Longleaf Legacy projects have resulted in more than 26,000 acres of restored longleaf pine forest and more than 6,500 acres of new longleaf pine forest in Alabama.

Five Star Restoration - Community Projects and Programs - Alabama Power Company

Five Star Restoration

Five Star Restoration is a public-private partnership that provides grants and technical support for community-based education and outreach projects in riparian, coastal and wetland areas. Key partners include Southern Company and its operating companies, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Association of Counties, the Wildlife Habitat Council and other nonprofits. Since 2006, more than 100 acres of wetlands and 6,000 feet of riparian buffer have been restored in Alabama through the partnership.

Forever Wild Land Trust - Community Projects and Programs - Alabama Power Company

Forever Wild

The Forever Wild Land Trust was established in 1992 to purchase public lands in Alabama. Since its inception, the program has secured more than 227,000 acres of land for recreation, nature preserves, state parks and additions to wildlife management areas. Along with state legislators and voters, we strongly supported the constitutional amendment to create the program and its reauthorization in 2012.
