As part of our ongoing efforts to unearth more innovative and environmentally friendly ways to generate electricity, we've added biomass to our fuel mix through Renewable Energy. Purchasing renewable energy can help your company meet environmental objectives and can improve relationships with your customers, employees and the local community.

Renewable Energy:

• Supports regional agriculture by using domestically-grown switchgrass as its primary fuel source.
• Other alternative energy sources will be added to our fuel mix as the demand for renewable energy increases in the future.
• Helps reduce emissions from fossil fuels.
• Two 1,000-pound bales of switchgrass generate 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity - enough to power an average home for a month.
• Supports domestic energy self-reliance.

Commercial and Industrial customers can purchase renewable energy in 100-kilowatt-hour blocks for a 12-month time period. After 12 months, you will be automatically reenrolled unless you notify Alabama Power of your wishes to withdraw from the program. Each block adds $4.50 (plus tax) to your company's monthly electricity bill, and you can buy as many blocks as you wish. Due to the way electricity is distributed and transmitted, you may not receive the actual electricity that is produced by renewable generation, however, the renewable energy you register to purchase will go on the power grid and offset traditional generation sources.
