Renewable Energy

A future power source is growing in fields throughout the Southeast.

As part of our ongoing efforts to unearth more innovative and environmentally friendly ways to generate electricity, we've added biomass to our fuel mix through Renewable Energy.

Renewable Energy:

• Supports the use of renewable resources to generate electricity by using waste wood such as sawdust and woodchips, along with domestically grown switchgrass as fuel sources.
• Other alternative energy sources will be added to our fuel mix as the demand for renewable energy increases in the future.
• Helps reduce emissions from fossil fuels.
• 50 kilowatt-hour blocks generated from renewable sources can be purchased by residential customers for an additional $2.25 a month.
• A $2.25 per month premium will replace 5% of the average residential customers energy usage with renewable energy on the Alabama Power Company grid.
