Jamie Price

Jamie Price joined the Training Center staff in 2010. Jamie comes from M & A Supply in Birmingham and has 30 years experience in the HVAC Industry. He has taught HVAC for the past several years while also acting as a field service representative. He is an Alabama State Board of Heating and Air Conditioning certified contractor and a State of Alabama Master Gas Fitter and Plumber and also holds REA, HERS and four NATE certifications.

Joel Owen, Manager

A native of Gadsden, Alabama, Joel is a graduate of Alabama Technical College (Gadsden State Community College) where he received a diploma in HVAC Technology. He joined Alabama Power in 1983 in the Appliance Service Department and moved to the Training Center as a training analyst in 1993. 

Joel has been actively involved in the HVAC Industry for 32 years and holds eight (8) technician certifications and an Alabama State Board of Heating and Air Conditioning contractor's license, he is a certified Residential Mechanical Ventilation instructor for HRAI of Canada and a member of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES). He also serves on the ICE (Industry Competence Exam) committee for Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI), Arlington, Virginia; the ACCA Education Summit Subcommittee; the technical committee for North American Technical Excellence (NATE), Arlington, Virginia; and as a site evaluator for Partnership for Air Condition, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation. He also serves as Chairperson of the Technical Committee for the HVACR SkillsUSA, State of Alabama competition.

David Cunningham

David is a native of Scottsboro, Alabama. He attended John Patterson State Technical College in Montgomery, AL, Northeast AL Community College in Rainsville, AL, and Athens State University in Athens, AL.

David’s history in the HVAC industry spans 41 years, beginning in 1979. His career began working for a contractor in 1981, then started his own business in 1983 as a contractor, operating it for 12 years. In 1994, David began his career as an HVACR instructor for the State of Alabama at Earnest Pruitt Center of Technology in Hollywood, AL. He taught for 18 years before transitioning to a Training Analyst for Alabama Power in 2012. In 2017 he was promoted to Senior Training Analyst. His main responsibilities with Alabama Power include training primarily on the electrical side of HVAC; also  training for dual fuel classes, preparatory classes for NATE exams, training in Duct Envelope Tightness testing, and is the lead instructor for training on Commercial VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems, and residential mini-splits.

David’s certifications include Fujitsu Authorized Service Training for Airstage VRF systems and Halcyon mini-split systems, trainer and proctor for ESCO Institute and trainer for DET (Duct Envelope Tightness) testing. He is also an active CM (Certified Member) of RSES (Refrigeration Service Engineers Society), a member of the “The Association of Energy Engineers” as a REA (Certified Residential Energy Auditor), and an active member of ACARE (Alabama Council of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Educators). He holds a contractor’s license from Alabama HCACR State Board, a Universal EPA certification, and credentials for Airtightness Verifier Trainer (DET) for Alabama Home Builders.

Jeff Marquess

Jeff Marquess, from Calera, Alabama joined Alabama Power Company’s HVAC Training Center in September, 2014 as Senior Training Analyst. Jeff is a Graduate of The University of Montevallo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics and a minor in Business Administration. He has over 30 years of experience in the HVAC Industry. Jeff ‘s experience in the HVAC industry include: Installation technician, service technician, sales, load calculations, duct design, duct fabrication, and technical training. He was previously employed for over 22 years at Air Engineers as their Field Service Representative. Jeff’s Certifications include: Alabama State Board of Heating and Air Conditioning Contractor, State of Alabama Certified Journeyman Gas Fitter, Universal Refrigerant Handling Technician and N.A.T.E. Certification. He is an active member of R.S.E.S., ACCA and ACARE (Alabama Council of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Educators). He is also a CEU provider for N.A.T.E. and the state of Alabama.
