Find top online bachelor’s degree programs in Alabama

In the halls of higher learning, eight Alabama colleges and universities provide online bachelor’s degree offerings that are among the nation’s best, U.S. News and World Report reported Jan. 25.

U.S. News unveiled its Best Online Programs after ranking 1,651 bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, the most in its 10-year history. Rankings are provided for 361 institutions, many of which tied in the 2022 survey.

The Yellowhammer State’s top-ranked institutions for online bachelor’s degrees include Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM), Talladega College, Troy University, University of Alabama, UAB, University of North Alabama, University of South Alabama and University of West Alabama.

Alabama’s higher education system is composed of 78 college and universities. U.S. News annually considers schools according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence – including graduation rates, faculty credentials and support services available remotely – in national rankings of the top online bachelor’s degree programs.

Here are the state’s top ranking schools for online bachelor’s degree programs.

UAB – No. 29

UAB’s undergraduate online bachelor is esteemed among the Top 30 best programs. U.S. News’ online rankings are based on expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators that measure a school’s faculty, research and students. UAB ranked high in categories for best online bachelor’s programs, best online bachelor’s programs for veterans, best online bachelor’s in psychology programs and best online bachelor’s in business programs.

University of Alabama – No. 47

The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, which has offered online classes since 2005-06, ranked 47th of 361 for Best Online Bachelor’s Programs. The university earned top individual rankings for best online bachelor’s in business programs, best online bachelor’s programs for veterans and best online bachelor’s programs.

University of South Alabama – No. 68

The University of South Alabama in Mobile has offered online studies since 1998-99. Health and related programs are the university’s top-ranked programs.

Troy University – No. 101

Troy University received high rankings in several categories: best online bachelor’s in psychology, best online bachelor’s programs for veterans and best online bachelor’s programs in business.

Troy earned top scores for its bachelor’s degree online programs in criminal justice/safety studies and business administration and management.

University of North Alabama – No. 183

The University of North Alabama in Florence started its online bachelor’s programs in 2006-07.

U.S. News ranks UNA’s online bachelor’s in business programs at No. 98 nationally. The university ranked high for its online offerings for registered nursing, health and medical administrative, and business administration and management.

AUM – No. 211

AUM has offered its online bachelor’s degree program for eight years. Students must apply by Aug. 1 for consideration this year.

AUM’s online students find excellent offerings for registered nursing and clinical/medical lab technician training.

Talladega College – tied at No. 275

Talladega College has offered its online bachelor’s degree program for four years. Online students find excellent offerings in business administration and management.

University of West Alabama – tied at No. 275

The University of West Alabama in Livingston has offered online bachelor’s degree programs for 18 years. Online classes are recorded and archived for students’ convenience in accessing materials.
