Lighting Rate Options

Adding outdoor lighting is an excellent way to enhance the security and comfort of your home. With two different rate options, we offer flexible lighting solutions to meet your needs. These options can be added to your monthly bill, along with your primary residential rate.

Lighting Rate Plans: Two Ways

Each option is available for residential, commercial and industrial customers, with ODL offering additional lighting options, such as LED lights.

Here’s a quick look at how they compare:

Rate FPL – Unmetered Protective Lighting

The FPL rate provides outdoor lighting for farms, residences, churches, schools and businesses. This plan includes area and protective lighting services that are connected directly to the company’s existing distribution line.

Key Features:

  • Service includes lighting mounted on existing utility poles.
  • Monthly rate covers:
    • Luminaire (light fixture) maintenance
    • Replacement of lamps and photoelectric controls if they fail
  • Available for standard, floodlight and off-road luminaires.
  • Special poles can also be installed for an additional charge. These poles are compatible with most of the company-owned light fixtures.

Rate ODL – Unmetered Outdoor Lighting

The ODL rate is available across our service areas and offers a wider variety of lighting options, including LED lights. This plan is ideal for outdoor lighting in public areas, streets, highways or residential locations.

Key Features:

  • Available in all areas served by our interconnected system.
  • Only applies to lighting for streets, roadways, highways and common areas. Billboard lighting is excluded.
  • Lamp options include mercury vapor (MV), high-pressure sodium (HPS), metal halide (MH), LED, induction and fluorescent lights.
  • Service includes:
    • Installation of lighting equipment, photoelectric controls and any necessary mounting or weatherproof enclosures.
    • Service is not available for seasonal or part-time lighting.
  • Service is unmetered, meaning charges are based on a fixed monthly rate, rather than energy consumption.

Important Notes

  • Lighting systems must meet our safety and accessibility requirements.
  • The location of the lighting installation must be safely accessible for maintenance and repairs.
  • Service under this plan is available only for lighting installations – no other electrical loads can share the service point.
