Reliability You Can Count On

Powering homes and businesses across Alabama takes more than flipping a switch. It takes planning, people and technology working together – every day, in every corner of the state.

From mountain ridges to coastal communities, rural roads to growing cities, delivering reliable electricity across Alabama comes with real challenges. Our job is to meet those challenges head-on, so you can count on your power when you need it most.

Outage Prevention Technology

How We Provide Reliable Service

Providing our customers reliable service is a top priority. That’s why we invest in smart technology, strong infrastructure and the people who keep our system running – before, during and after storms.

Those investments are paying off. Overall service reliability is about 99%, and 65% of outages are restored within two hours. In 2025 alone, our outage-prevention technology kept 600,000 customers from experiencing a prolonged outage – avoiding 112 million minutes of power interruptions.

Built for Alabama; Built for You

Powering this state isn’t one-size-fits-all.

  • 42% of Alabama residents live in rural areas, the second-highest percentage in the South
  • The state is 70% forested, and trees are the number one cause of outages
  • We face frequent severe weather, including an average of 57 tornadoes per year
  • Homes and businesses are spread across long distances, from back roads to growing cities

All of that means our electric system has to be strong, flexible and ready to respond anywhere, anytime. We design, maintain and upgrade our grid specifically for the realities of Alabama – so whether you live in a rural community or a busy metro area, your power is built to show up.

A Diverse Energy Mix Helps Keep Power Reliable

No single energy source works perfectly in every situation. That’s why Alabama Power uses a diverse mix of energy resources to keep electricity flowing across the state.

Today, about one-third of our generated electricity comes from clean energy sources like solar, hydro and nuclear. We’re also continuing to invest in the future, with 560 megawatts of solar facilities completed or approved to start construction by 2029, including battery storage systems that help support reliability when demand is high or conditions change.

When our energy mix is balanced, it gives us more ways to keep your power reliable. That flexibility helps us:

  • Respond to changing weather conditions
  • Adjust to shifts in customer demand
  • Keep power available even when one source is limited
  • Strengthen reliability during extreme temperatures or severe weather

What Our Reliable, Resilient Power Grid Means for You

You don’t see most of the work that goes into reliability, but you feel the difference:

  • Fewer outages overall
  • Faster restoration when outages do happen
  • Better information about what’s happening
  • More predictability for your home or business
  • Peace of mind, even during severe weather

We know your power affects your comfort, your workday and your family routines. Reliability isn’t just about infrastructure – it’s about showing up for your life.

Fiber Is Our Foundation

Fiber has been and will continue to be foundational to our electric grid. We are actively deploying fiber to distribution areas across the communities we serve for its many benefits: faster outage restoration, fewer customers impacted per fault, increased security and enhanced grid device coordination. With fiber, we can build capacity to meet our customers' needs for today and well into the future.

The Scale of What It Takes

Behind every number are people inspecting lines, monitoring systems, trimming trees, upgrading equipment and responding when the unexpected happens.

Reliability Doesn’t Happen by Accident

Reliable service isn’t something we turn on during storm season; it’s something we work on all year long. From routine maintenance and grid upgrades to smarter technology and dedicated crews, reliability is built into the everyday work you don’t always see – but always depend on.
