Know Your Power: Your Guide to Summer Energy Usage

Save Energy This Summer with Tips and Tools

Did you know Alabamians use around 30% more electricity than the national average? A big reason for that is our weather. In the peak heat and humidity of summer, it’s no surprise it takes more energy to keep your home comfortable.

While we've frozen rates through 2027, higher usage can still lead to higher bills. With a better understanding of how your home uses energy, you can make small adjustments to stay on track and keep your bill more consistent month to month.

That's where our tools come in. They give you a clearer picture of your energy use, so you can make informed decisions and find opportunities to save. Because saving energy starts with knowing your power.

Our Newest Tool: TempCheck

Summer heat can push your HVAC system to work harder, especially when there’s a big difference between outdoor temperatures and your thermostat setting. Our new tool shows how those factors work together, helping you find a comfortable setting that can also help reduce energy use. Try it out.

Please note: this tool is for educational purposes only. It shows the relationship between temperature and energy demand, but it is not a billing calculator and does not account for your home's size, insulation, equipment efficiency or usage habits. Tier thresholds are based on ASHRAE balance point research. Results will vary by home.
