LIHEAP helps eligible low-income households in Alabama, by providing timely and appropriate financial assistance. The program offers heating assistance (October 1-April 30) and cooling assistance (May 1 – September 30). Applications must be submitted through your local community action agency.
We have programs for customers with special needs. This includes different payment dates for those on government checks, Braille and large-print bills, and services for the deaf.
In partnership with the Salvation Army, Project SHARE helps pay the energy bills of low-income Alabamians, who are age 60 or older and/or disabled, if funds are available.
This program helps reduce energy costs for low-income households by improving the energy efficiency of their homes. Applications for these services must be submitted through a local community action agency.
211 can help callers access many types of services, including utility assistance, especially for the elderly, people with disabilities and families with children.
