Alabama Power leaders recall April 27, 2011 tornadoes and restoration effort
Ten years ago, on April 27, 2011, a historic and deadly tornado outbreak devastated communities across Alabama, forever changing lives.
Over a 14-hour period, 62 tornadoes tore through the heart of the state – the most ever recorded in Alabama in a single day. As many as 252 people died in connection with the storms and up to 2,200 were injured, according to official sources. More than 14,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.

Over the past 10 days Alabama NewsCenter has reported on the places affected by the massive tornadoes, sharing stories of heartbreak and tragedy, and of renewal and hope – about communities that were drawn together in disaster and rebuilt stronger and better.
In recognition and in remembrance of the April 2011 tornado outbreak, veteran Alabama broadcaster Mike Royer visited with key members of the Alabama Power team who were closely involved in the company’s efforts to restore service and support communities.
