Alabama Power website now includes information in Spanish for customers

Alabama Power’s website now offers information in Spanish for the company’s growing number of Spanish-speaking customers.

Customers who prefer Spanish can now view energy saving tips, get information about opening and managing their account, enroll in billing programs, get storm information and learn about electrical safety – in Spanish.

“We’re excited to have these new informational pages on our website to assist our Spanish-speaking customers,” said Jonathan Porter, Alabama Power senior vice president for Customer Operations. “We hope this information is helpful to our growing Hispanic community in Alabama, and to other Spanish speakers visiting our website.”

Customers can access the Spanish-language site directly by visiting alabamapower.com/es. Or they can click the word “Español” in the top right-hand corner of alabamapower.com.

The Spanish-language pages include information for residential and commercial customers. The pages offer high-level information about Alabama Power, including company history and details about its generating plants, the company’s community efforts, employee volunteerism and career opportunities. Information about the Alabama Power Foundation is also on the site.

The Alabama Power team used analytical tools to identify the most-visited customer-facing pages and consulted with native Spanish speakers in the company’s Customer Service Center about the questions they receive most from Spanish-speaking customers. The goal: to create a helpful resource for those who prefer to do business in Spanish when visiting the company website.

“This was truly a team effort, with the goal of helping our Spanish-speaking customers,” said Ashley Robinett, Alabama Power’s vice president for Public Relations.

Spanish speakers can also call Alabama Power’s automated customer service line at 1-800-245-2244 to get information in Spanish or to request to speak to a Spanish-speaking customer service representative. Many of Alabama Power’s customer service offices have Spanish-speaking employees.

According to census data, about 136,000 people in Alabama Power’s service territory identify as Hispanic. From 2010 to 2020, Alabama’s Hispanic population grew by more than 30% – a rate higher than the national average.
