This Alabama Power unsung hero treats her customers like family

Small Alabama towns are like big families.

Alabama Power Customer Service Representative Donna Linley grew up in Winfield and has been active in the community her entire life. “People support each other,” said Linley. “When you’re with the same people from kindergarten through high school, those friendships last a lifetime.”

“Donna is a hard worker but beyond that she has a heart for the customer and her community that is exemplary,” said Manager Lisa Farley. “The customers trust her and know they can depend on her whenever they need assistance, whether it’s a problem with a bill, needing new service or purchasing an appliance. Her work ethic and commitment make her an asset that anyone would be proud to have on their team.”

Prior to working for the company, Linley remembers numerous times walking into the office to pay her bill and knowing all the employees. She long hoped that one day she could join them as an employee. In 2007, she was hired.

Though she works in customer service, she assists in the appliance sales, engineering and right-of-way departments.

Customer service is basic for Linley. She understands the difficult circumstances customers experience. It means a lot to her to know her customers by name.

Linley enjoys helping customers and making things as easy as possible for them. Her motto is to treat people as you want to be treated – always. She has a heart for customers who have challenges, especially financial hardships.

“I love the company, the people and I love my community,” said Linley. “I love all my customers, they are like my family.”

In December 2021, when a tornado hit the downtown area, the Winfield office building was damaged and forced to close temporarily. Customers began calling to check on Linley and express their desire to have the office open. Based on the volume of calls received, when the office reopened, Winfield City Hall displayed the reopening announcement on its marquee: “Alabama Power is open.”

As customer expectations continue to rise, Linley continues to deliver exemplary service.

“I understand people and the situations that can arise today, and people need help and understanding,” said Linley.

Linley has volunteered through the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) on Habitat for Humanity projects and participated with various fundraisers to provide Christmas gifts for children.

She is active in the Winfield Church of Christ, helping others throughout the community. She provides meals to those who can’t get out for themselves. Linley worked on the renovation of the Weldy Home for Children in Winfield, which provides shelter to girls ages 6 to 18 who have been abused, neglected or abandoned.

“I’m extremely proud to work for a company that values the community and offers its employees the opportunity to help others,” said Linley. “We have a wonderful team. I’m thankful to work for Alabama Power.”
