What is AMI?

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks, and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers.

Can your system detect leaks?

Yes. With our AMI Standard option, you will have the data you need to recognize leaks on the customer side of the meter. This allows you a great opportunity to provide proactive customer service.

Our water meters are old and will need to be replaced. I know this will be expensive. How can you help?

We provide a lease option that can help you spread the cost out over 15 years. Our leased meters come with a 20-year warranty and a 20-year “new meter read” guarantee.

Our meters have recently been replaced. Are you able to determine if they are compatible with your AMI network?

Our transmitters are capable of connecting to most meters on the market. Some hardware change-outs might be necessary, like new meter registers. We would be glad to help you determine if your existing meters will work with our AMI network.

I understand that Alabama Power uses a Sensus network. Our meters are from a different manufacturer. How can you help?

Our transmitters can adapt to most meters. Contact us to learn more about your options.

The size of my system is quite large and changing out every meter will be costly. Is it possible to complete the work in phases?

Yes. We will be glad to work with a phased approach that meets your needs. This will allow you to ease into the new system by learning the process needed to get the most out of all the data you are receiving and also allow for any recognized increases in revenue to aid in future rollouts.

My system doesn’t have the personnel to handle the installation and maintenance of our new meters. How can you help?

We can help you from start to finish. We can coordinate a professional and timely installation, so you can realize additional revenue as quickly as possible. We also offer a maintenance plan, so you can worry about what matters most.

How does AMI benefit our system?

  • Improved customer service by increasing accuracy and frequency of meter readings
  • Minimized need to access meters at the property
  • Reduction in estimated bills
  • Increased safety
  • Fixed monthly cost with no surprises

How will I be able to view my data?

With a potential for one read every hour (8,760 / year), accessing and understand your data is critical. With the Sensus portal, you will be able to access your data from anywhere and on any device.

I am not located in Alabama Power’s service territory. Can I still utilize your network?

Possibly. Alabama Power reads 1.5 Million meters across the state. If your system is anywhere close to our service territory, there is a good chance we can read your meters.
