Metering Solutions

Cut down on the time you spend reading gas or water meters

If you read your meters either manually or with a drive-by system, our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system can help make meter reading easier, more efficient and more affordable.

AMI is an integrated system of smart meters, communication networks, and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers. With this technology, you can still be on top of readings, while also freeing up time and resources for other parts of your business. Plus, you may be surprised to learn it’s not as expensive as you think.

Data Packages

We offer several data packages to suit your needs and help you gain fast access to the data you need to make important decisions for your operations.

  • AMI Lite – We can provide you with the data you need from your meters. The cost of hosting your data can be included in your Alabama Power bill or sent to you as a monthly fee if you’re not an Alabama Power customer.
  • AMI Standard – We partnered with Sensus to provide you with the latest and the best in data analytic applications. This option will provide you with hourly reads, helping you gain a better understanding of your system, your customer and their needs.
  • AMI Air – If you are utilizing a bid process to switch your system to AMI and would prefer to contract with a single vendor, we can provide our network services with analytics through your vendor of choice.

Customers Who Benefits from AMI

What is AMI?

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks, and data management systems that enables two-way communication between utilities and customers.

Can your system detect leaks?

Yes. With our AMI Standard option, you will have the data you need to recognize leaks on the customer side of the meter. This allows you a great opportunity to provide proactive customer service.

Our water meters are old and will need to be replaced. I know this will be expensive. How can you help?

We provide a lease option that can help you spread the cost out over 15 years. Our leased meters come with a 20-year warranty and a 20-year “new meter read” guarantee.

Our meters have recently been replaced. Are you able to determine if they are compatible with your AMI network?

Our transmitters are capable of connecting to most meters on the market. Some hardware change-outs might be necessary, like new meter registers. We would be glad to help you determine if your existing meters will work with our AMI network.

I understand that Alabama Power uses a Sensus network. Our meters are from a different manufacturer. How can you help?

Our transmitters can adapt to most meters. Contact us to learn more about your options.

The size of my system is quite large and changing out every meter will be costly. Is it possible to complete the work in phases?

Yes. We will be glad to work with a phased approach that meets your needs. This will allow you to ease into the new system by learning the process needed to get the most out of all the data you are receiving and also allow for any recognized increases in revenue to aid in future rollouts.

My system doesn’t have the personnel to handle the installation and maintenance of our new meters. How can you help?

We can help you from start to finish. We can coordinate a professional and timely installation, so you can realize additional revenue as quickly as possible. We also offer a maintenance plan, so you can worry about what matters most.

How does AMI benefit our system?

  • Improved customer service by increasing accuracy and frequency of meter readings
  • Minimized need to access meters at the property
  • Reduction in estimated bills
  • Increased safety
  • Fixed monthly cost with no surprises

How will I be able to view my data?

With a potential for one read every hour (8,760 / year), accessing and understand your data is critical. With the Sensus portal, you will be able to access your data from anywhere and on any device.

I am not located in Alabama Power’s service territory. Can I still utilize your network?

Possibly. Alabama Power reads 1.5 Million meters across the state. If your system is anywhere close to our service territory, there is a good chance we can read your meters.
