James Spann: Dry pattern continues with mild afternoons

DRY DAYS: Alabama’s weather will stay rain-free through the weekend with mostly sunny mild days and fair cool nights. Highs will be in the 70s, with lows in the 40s and 50s.

NEXT WEEK: No real change through the first half of the week; highs remain in the 70s with a partly sunny sky. The chance of showers will be very small until Thursday night and Friday, when rain is likely ahead of an upper trough. Unfortunately for now it doesn’t look like a big rain event.

Long range data suggests temperatures will remain above average across the Deep South through Thanksgiving.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Saturday Alabama will host Oklahoma at Bryant-Denny Stadium/Saban Field (2:30 p.m. kickoff) … the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 70s.

UAB hosts North Texas Saturday at Protective Stadium in downtown Birmingham (1 p.m. kickoff). The weather will be dry and mild with temperatures in the 70-74 degree range.

ON THIS DATE IN 1938: Unseasonable warmth spread across the Deep South; Birmingham’s high was 82 degrees, which still stands as the daily record high for Nov. 18.
