Singing River Trail celebrates milestone with groundbreaking in downtown Leighton, Alabama

The Singing River Trail and the Town of Leighton held a major groundbreaking celebration during Sledgefest on Saturday, June 14.

This groundbreaking marked the beginning of a downtown revitalization project made possible by a $1 million Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant. The project will reimagine part of downtown Leighton to help drive economic activity and tourism.

Once the project is complete, the town will have a new multiuse path that is part of the larger Singing River Trail, a 200-plus-mile greenway system connecting communities across North Alabama.

The groundbreaking event was beside the Leighton Public Library at 8740 Main St.

Established in 2018, the Singing River Trail is intended to strengthen regional bonds and create new health and wellness, educational, economic, tourism and entrepreneurial opportunities for the people and communities in Alabama’s Tennessee Valley region.
