For more than 20 years, Lay Dam has hosted a day for Special Olympics competitors throughout Chilton County where the participants tour the dam, play, dance and enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers. Due to the pandemic, the event wasn’t hosted the past two years.
This year, Lay Dam employees attended the Chilton County Special Olympics and staffed a hospitality tent providing athletes and fans with drinks, snacks and bubble wands.
They also handed out superhero masks to go along with this year’s theme: Not All Superheroes Wear Capes.
Lay Dam Superintendent Noel Harrison said the event is special to plant employees and they were excited to participate again.
“We love being able to support our local community and especially the Special Olympics,” he said, adding that employees also attended the opening ceremony and many of the athletic events to cheer on the competitors. “We look forward to it every year, and we’re so glad to once again support such a worthy cause.”
