About one-third of the electricity that serves our customers today is from clean fuel sources, and that number will continue to grow.
We are transforming the way we power Alabama through the diverse mix of energy sources we use to generate reliable electricity.
A significant part of that mix is derived from clean energy sources, which also reduces our carbon emissions.
What is clean energy?
Clean energy is electricity generated from carbon-free fuel sources. These sources are renewable (solar, hydro and wind) or do not emit carbon during the generation of electricity, like nuclear energy. Each source works differently in contributing to our electric grid. Together, they provide us with many ways to ensure we are meeting our customers’ energy needs today and tomorrow.
How we use clean energy
There are several types of clean energy we use to power our grid. As technology advances, so do our methods of capturing as much energy as we can in a safe and responsible way.

Solar energy is power that is harnessed directly from the rays of the sun. The sun can provide energy as a source of electricity for your home or business.

Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy is a sound, environmentally responsible fuel source that produces little to no greenhouse gases and accounts for nearly half of all emission-free electric generating capacity in the U.S.

Wind Energy
Wind energy is not easy to come by in Alabama, so we work with wind farms in other states. We have agreements with Chisholm View Wind Project in Oklahoma and Buffalo Dunes Wind Project in Kansas to use the power and associated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) from these plants to serve customers.
