Alabama Power honored for innovative reliability analytics platform at SEE Conference

Alabama Power continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering reliable service customers can count on. By developing innovative technologies and systems, the company consistently enhances its infrastructure to improve reliability and efficiently meet customers’ energy needs.

This commitment was recently recognized at the Southeastern Electric Exchange’s (S.E.E.) Annual Conference in Orlando, where Alabama Power was honored with the prestigious Chairman’s Award. This award is considered the “Best of the Best” and honors the project deemed most outstanding of all the category winners. Alabama Power’s Power Delivery organization received the award for its work developing the Reliability Analytics and Monitoring Platform (RAMP).

RAMP is a cutting-edge, cloud-based application developed in partnership with E-Source. This innovative platform provides a comprehensive view of the power grid’s performance, integrating reported values, customer experience data and device failure information. By leveraging these insights, RAMP identifies areas for improvement and pinpoints the root causes of reliability issues, marking a significant advancement in using data to enhance system reliability, operational efficiency and strategic planning.

Arnab Ghosal, vice president of Grid Transformation and Connectivity at Alabama Power, emphasized the transformative impact of RAMP on the company’s operations. “With RAMP, we can proactively address potential reliability issues before they affect our customers,” Ghosal said. “This platform not only helps us maintain our commitment to providing reliable service but also guides our strategic planning and operational efficiency efforts.”

The Chairman’s Award from SEE is a testament to Alabama Power’s innovative approach to improving power grid reliability. The company’s forward-thinking strategies are reshaping how data is utilized in the energy sector, setting new benchmarks for industry excellence.

SEE, a nonprofit association of investor-owned electric utilities founded in 1933, aims to enhance the human, operational and technical resources of its members while coordinating storm restoration services. The recognition from SEE underscores Alabama Power’s leadership in fostering innovation and excellence in the electric utility industry.
