Alabama Power Field Service Representative Kyle Lawrence’s passion has always been helping people.
“Kyle is a hero because he gives his time and money to serve his community in multiple ways,” said Dana McGregor, Customer Operations Field Service supervisor at Alabama Power. “He doesn’t seek any recognition for these activities. He truly enjoys being a volunteer and giving back.”
Lawrence grew up in the unincorporated town of Jones in Autauga County, where he has volunteered with the fire department for more than 20 years. In his role as assistant chief, Lawrence responds to fires of all types and assists with medical calls and motor vehicle accidents. He is “on call” 24/7 except when he is at work for Alabama Power.
The fire department volunteers organize an annual Easter egg hunt and a Christmas parade. Lawrence appears as Santa Claus in the parade. These events are held to let the community know about the services the fire department provides.
Lawrence has participated in his community with the Alabama Power Service Organization, Lifeliners and Safe-T-Opolis for over 20 years.
Lifeliners are employees with different backgrounds and life experiences who present Safe-T-Opolis. They have one thing in common – they want to keep children safe.
Safe-T-Opolis is Alabama Power’s public safety program presented to fourth graders by specially trained APC employees. These employees use a live circuit that generates 11,000 volts of electricity.
Lawrence has presented Safe-T-Opolis to hundreds of students and shared it with many first responders. He said it’s rewarding to share this safety information with kids who might not hear it anywhere else.
Lawrence is also active in a martial arts group that teaches children and women how to protect and defend themselves if the need should arise.
“The organizations I volunteer with give me the opportunity to help others and give back to my community,” Lawrence said.
For 30 years, Lawrence has enjoyed working outside, as a general helper, a meter reader and now an FSR in Montgomery. He is responsible for setting and disconnecting meters, as well as working collection orders while being sensitive to individual customer situations.
