When it comes down to it, we are involved in so much more than keeping the lights on. We're also working to make a difference in the lives of Alabamians. We're involved in the development of our communities, the education of our young people, supporting causes our customers feel strongly about and taking care of our elderly, needy and disabled.
Founded in 1989, the Alabama Power Foundation has been guided by the mission to elevate the state and improve the quality of life for all Alabamians. Committed to empowering communities and bridging the gaps of inequity across the state, the Foundation volunteers for and funds projects across these five focus areas: Health & Human Services, Environmental Stewardship, Arts & Cultural Enrichment, Educational Advancement, and Civic & Community Development
We’re proud to support veterans in our communities and workforce through partnerships like the Salute to Veterans Bowl, the Daniels Center and the Alabama Veterans Resource Center.
Inside the company, our Battle Buddy program pairs new veteran hires with experienced veterans to help them adjust, plan careers and feel confident in their next chapter.
We also actively recruit veterans, knowing their training, discipline and leadership align with our values and strengthen the work we do every day.
Education sparks opportunity, and we’re committed to helping students of all ages learn and grow through engaging programs and resources. From classroom tools to safety lessons and career readiness, we’re investing in bright futures across Alabama.
Service is a commitment deeply rooted in our company’s culture – one that extends into communities across the state through the generous efforts of our employees, retirees and their families. Two key organizations, the Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) and the Energizers, exemplify this spirit of volunteerism. Together, they contribute tens of thousands of hours each year to support education, environmental stewardship and vital community services.
Our lake operations balance needs ranging from recreation to energy production to habitat protection.
Renew Our Rivers began in 2000 as a community river cleanup organized by Alabama Power employees. Today, it is one of the nation’s largest river cleanups. With the help of local community partners, volunteers and organizations, Alabama Power has coordinated more than 104,000 volunteers and removed more than 13.5 million pounds of trash from Alabama waterways.
