Looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors this summer? Hit the road and visit Alabama Power’s The Preserves. With more than 60 unique sites situated along Alabama Power’s lakes to choose from, there’s a Preserve property that can satisfy any outdoor lover.

The Preserves were created by Alabama Power to allow the public to enjoy and celebrate the rich ecological diversity of the state. These recreational sites are protected lands designed to foster a love and appreciation of Alabama’s beautiful outdoors.

“The Preserves are available for anyone to enjoy and summer is the perfect time to take advantage of all the beauty and adventure the outdoors have to offer,” said Steven Posey, Alabama Power recreation development assistant. “Alabama Power is pleased to be able to provide these recreational areas to the communities we serve, and we encourage everyone to visit.”

Along with recreational amenities, some of The Preserves provide educational opportunities. At six Alabama Power lakes, there are nature trails with interpretive signs for visitors to learn about native plant and animal species. Educational nature trails are at Neely Henry, Logan Martin, Lay, Martin, Weiss and Jordan lakes.

For an amazing picnic spot, check out Flat Rock Park on Harris Lake. This site provides a large playground, pavilions with picnic tables, grills, restrooms, swimming and fishing areas and a nature trail.

Along the shores of Logan Martin Lake, Double Cove Park, also known as Logan Martin Dam Park, is a day-use area equipped with a fishing pier, hiking trails, a playground, a picnic area and a designated swimming area.

These are just a sampling of what The Preserves offer families and individuals looking for convenient and affordable summer fun. Whether fun means picnicking with the family, hiking with the dog or taking a refreshing summertime splash, check out the opportunities at one of The Preserves.
