Easy Winter Tips

  • Set your thermostat as low as you can while still feeling comfortable – and drop it a bit more when you’re away from the house or asleep.
  • Seal up drafts around windows and doors to keep the heat in.
  • Let the sunshine in during the afternoon for free warmth – and close curtains at night to hold it in.

Why Bills Can Rise in Winter

When it’s cold outside, your heating system has to work harder to make up the difference between outdoor and indoor temperatures.

For example, heating your home from 40°F outside to 70°F inside is a 33-degree climb – but cooling it from 85°F to 72°F in summer is only a 13-degree drop.

That bigger gap means your system runs longer and uses more energy to keep you comfortable.
